Leaping Into the Afterlife

To native Hawaiians, the 'alala (Hawaiian raven) is a sacred bird, a guardian spirit, and guide to the afterlife. When a Hawaiian dies, the soul travels to a leaping place (a high ocean promontory) and awaits its guide.
